I love shopping at Goodwill and other thrift stores! I confess that it gives me a thrill because it's really like a treasure hunt. It's the same for me when I also shop discount stores that mainly sell what others stores could not. I also believe in recycling and up-cycling. Below are two pictures of a scrap quilt made completely of fabric scraps, and cotton items that were no longer of use. I also backed the quilt with a cotton curtain panel that I found at a thrift store.
Shopping at a dollar store this weekend past, I also found some great buys such as dish liquid for a dollar. I also purchased underwear for two dollars a pair. The funny thing was that they were better quality than two name brands I've bought in the past that fell apart at the waist shortly after!
This is more so a rambling rant. Waste not want not. That's been my motto for some time now. I'd love to hear from others on how they save money, recycle, and up-cycle. Pass those tips on!
XD
Wonderful blanket! It must be amazing to have the ability to make a blanket like that. Do you find that thrift stores have better supplies for projects like this?
ReplyDeleteJamie, I have found oodles of fabric at various thrift stores. But it's best when quilting to only use 100% cotton. I have also recycled old clothing that's still in good shape, but not wearable any longer. :)
