Hard, Trade or Mass?

This question came to me this morning as I was making breakfast(Yup, I'm pretty random). Which do you prefer when purchasing books?
Hardcovers are usually pricey, thus way outside my budget. Though, I have to admit, I have indulged in the past.
I hate trade. I dislike the awkard size and often find the book too flimsy.
I guess, my personal fav would be mass market. It's compact size and usually decent price appeals to me.

On another note: Sisters of Orion, chapter two will be up soon.

  1. I prefer trade because I don't have to crease the spine like with mass. And yeah, I try not to buy hardcover if I can help it.

  2. Funny... I don't care either way. I get so many different versions from book sales & such that I jump from one to the next. Lately, I've been printing up friends' books on 8.5 x 11 paper so I've even adjusted to that too ;)

  3. I much prefer mass market over the other two, for the same reasons as you. I will only buy trade if there's no other option (and with small and/or POD pubs, there often isn't), and avoid hardbacks.

That said, I have a few hardbacks that I've bought as part of a series, when I haven't been able to wait for the paperback version. ;)

  4. Trade paperbacks are awkward for me...I don't like them at all. And I don't like holding hardcovers either - too heavy. So yeah, mass market for me, all the way. :-)

  5. Mass, I can rarely afford books so cheaper is better. Though I do own a random mix of them that's mainly due to book sales and gifts.

  6. I am completely without prejudice when it comes to books. I love them all! The mass markets for their convenience, the hard backs for for their durability, and the trades because they're easier on my eyes. :-)

  7. I prefer hardcover for bookshelf aesthetics, but I like Trade for reading. I gravitate towards thicker books, and Mass just gets too hard to hold and prop open with one hand. Finger cramps.

  8. i go for mass market, their cheap and whilst not that durable it's not such a blow if you drop it in the bath *hangs head in shame*. What exactly are trade books?
